Baldwin County, AL: Lee Charities is proud to announce the opening of The Sharing Shed, a new community resource providing local nonprofit & civic organizations with free access to event essentials such as tables, chairs, tablecloths, and pop-up tents that will be open for business on December 1, 2025.
Created to help nonprofits and community groups host events, fundraisers, and gatherings without the burden of equipment rental costs, The Sharing Shed allows organizations to focus more of their energy and funding on serving others.
“There is so much good going on in Baldwin county. So many non-profits and groups coming together to make the county the best it can be. We at Lee Charities want to support and are excited to help provide this resource of the sharing shed to our community!” said Mitchell Lee, Vice President of Lee Charities.
Centrally located in Foley, The Sharing Shed operates much like a community library—but for event equipment instead of books. Approved nonprofits can reserve and check out items for free, returning them once their events are complete.
Beyond providing tangible resources, Lee Charities hopes The Sharing Shed will inspire collaboration and connection across Baldwin County.
“Every table we lend out becomes a place for people to come together,” added Penny Hughey, Director of Community Development. “That’s what this initiative is really about - connection, not just convenience.”
In addition to lending equipment, Hughey brings more than 35 years of professional event planning experience to the program, offering guidance to nonprofits as they plan and execute community events.
“Penny Hughey provided invaluable guidance in planning one of our recent nonprofit events, bringing together her deep event expertise and her unwavering commitment to our community. Her support made a tremendous impact, and we are grateful that Lee Charities will now offer the same high-level assistance to other organizations.” said Jessica Ware, Development Director, Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center, following a recent collaboration.
Nonprofits interested in using The Sharing Shed can learn more or request items by emailing PennyPHughey@gmail.com. Lee Charities also welcomes donations of new or gently used event equipment and volunteers to help maintain the space.
