FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE BEACH, AL — The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation, Inc. (JCMF) is proud to announce it will host a free Youth Mental Health First Aid Training and Certification course for 25 community members, made possible by a grant from the Tri-City Community Foundation, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of South Alabama.
The highly requested 8-hour course is designed to equip local adults with the skills necessary to recognize and support adolescents experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, enhancing early intervention efforts in South Baldwin County.
The availability of this training addresses a critical public health concern, aligning with the Tri-City Community Foundation’s funding priorities in Health, Human Services, and Youth. Statistics show that 1 in 5 youth, ages 13-18, live with a mental health condition. Furthermore, suicide is the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 10-34.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people, including parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, neighbors, and health and human services workers.
The goal is to provide a more informed staff and community capable of helping young people get the help they need, when they need it, using a proven, structured approach.
Participants in the training will review typical adolescent development and learn a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Topics covered in the 8-hour certification course include:
Anxiety & Depression
Substance use
Disorders in which psychosis may occur
Disruptive behavioral disorders, including AD/HD
Eating disorders
The Registration Cost is FREE for individuals who reside or work in the Foley, Gulf Shores, or Orange Beach Areas. Materials and lunch are included for the 25 available spots.
